CCO's Para-Nordic Program

Ontario's Para-Nordic Program is designed to provide youth and adults with various types of physical disabilities with opportunities to participate in our sport for purposes of recreation and competition. Categories within Para-Nordic include sit and standing skiing with disabilities such as vision impairment.

Cross Country Ontario’s Para-Nordic program will have two priorities:

  1. Grassroots:
    • To provide Para-Nordic programs under the CCO’s Youth Programs that can be used to attract Para-Nordic children to the sport of cross country skiing. These programs are based on Cross Country Canada’s Skill Development Program for Children include
      1. the Bunnyrabbit Program, for children five years of age and younger,
      2. the Jackrabbit Program, for children six to nine years of age, and
      3. the Track Attack Program, which is designed at skiers in the "Learning to Train" stage of development (skiers ten to twelve years of age)
    • To assist clubs in developing Para-Nordic programs by supplying material for clubs to use for recruitment, workshops, coaching education, learn to ski programs, equipment contacts.

Note: More detail on CCC's Youth Programs can be found on the Cross Country Canada youth page

  2. High Performance Program:
    • To promote the development of high performing Para-Nordic athletes to represent Ontario at CWG (starting in 2011)
    • To continue the development of high performing Para-Nordic athletes to represent Ontario as well as Canada on the international scene.
