With 3 medal-winning performances, and averaging 5 in the top 20 in each category on the last day of the Haywood Nationals, Ontario showed its strength and capped off a successful week of competition.

In his debut performance at Nationals, National Ski Team member Len Valjas took gold in the classic sprints, while Perianne Jones claimed her second silver of the week.
Jenn Jackson Sprints to Bronze on Day 4 of Nationals
Claiming her third medal of the Championships, Team Hardwood's Jenn Jackson battled back after a fall in her qualifier that placed her midfield, and just missed out on the silver in the 1.2km classic sprint.

It was an impressive display of Ontario’'s talent as the junior girls and boys claimed 8 of the top 20 spots in Tuesday’s interval start classic events. Ontario added 3 more medals to its total.
Opening Weekend of Haywood Ski Nationals
Ontario has already accumulated 9 medals over the first two days of the Haywood Ski Nationals taking place in Whistler, the Nordic venue for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.
The Superclinic is Back
The 3rd annual NCCP Superclinic will take place in Thunder Bay, at Lakehead University Athletics, June 14-16, 2013. Training to Train coaches, who are interested in moving on to the Comp Dev stage, can complete the mandatory multi sport modules (i.e. leading a drug free sport, managing conflict, coaching and leading effectively, psychology of performance) at this event. The multi sport modules are available to ANY coach to take whether it is part of the coach pathway or as professional development or just personal interest. Cross Country Ontario has completed a review of its Athlete Code of Conduct. We strive to have an equitable and fair code of conduct for all Ontario athletes. In an effort to educate and create the best possible environment for athletes and coaches in which to strive for excellence, we respectfully request that ALL Ontario athletes attending the 2013 Ski Nationals, March 23-31, sign an online Athlete Code of Conduct. Please 'sign' by Monday, March 18, 2013. For those athletes under the age of 18, we are requesting that parents/guardians also read and provide an online signature.

The small Hepworth community pulled together to host what Georgian Nordic coach Ghislain Henry called “a very upbeat and positive” Ontario Midget Championships for 125 peewee and midget skiers on the Sawmill Trails this past weekend, February 23rd and 24th.

Ontario Tops Québec at Haywood NorAm Eastern Canadians
For the first time in many years, a new aggregate champion was crowned at the Haywood NorAm Eastern Canadians this past weekend on Nakkertok’s trails in Cantley, Québec, as Ontario narrowly beat out Québec by 27 points. Ontario skiers collected 19 medals over the 3-day event.

On the last day of competition at the Haywood NorAms in Thunder Bay, Michael Somppi of Lappe and Christopher Hamilton of Big Thunder took gold and bronze in the 15km skate race. Kate Brennan of Kanata took the bronze in the senior women's 10km race.
Valjas Does It Again & This Time It’s Silver
Len Valjas of Team Hardwood exhibited his cool style once again in the 2nd last stage of the Tour de Ski, sticking to his plan of staying in the pack, then moving forward in the 3rd and last lap of the mass start 15km classic race, setting himself up for the final sprint to the finish.

By being the first U23 skier to cross the line in the senior men's 30km skiathlon, Andy Shields of Waterloo Region secured himself a spot in the World Junior Championships in Liberec, Czech Republic. Alana Thomas of Nakkertok had her best race of the season, capturing silver in the senior women's 15km skiathlon.

In the Tour de Ski's only sprint competition, Len Valjas of Team Hardwood came into the finals as a lucky loser and captured 3rd spot behind Norway's Krogh and Italy's Pellegrino.
