Canada Winter Games (CWGs) is a Government organized sporting event held in Canada every four years. The CWGs has been held in different locations across the country, to help areas develop winter sports facilities.
The purpose of the event is to give Canadian athletes an opportunity to compete for their province and experience an event similar to a World Championship and the Olympics. The games have developed a provincial team concept to bring all the sports from each province together. The ultimate goal for the province is to "Capture the Flag" to do this a point system has been designed with the results of each sporting event. You can find more about the CWGs on the website: http://www.canadagames.ca
The Ontario Team has had a history of being successful at the CWGs. Cross country skiing has a very important role in Capturing the Flag. Our sport has four events and has an opportunity of winning fourteen medals and many team member points. The CWGs technical package explains the breakdown for cross country skiing points.
CCO has a responsibility to educate the importance of this event to Ontario athletes. The opportunity usually once in a lifetime, and athletes need to understand their responsibility to the province once the athlete has made the team.
The High Performance Committee of CCO has set criteria to select the top Female and Male athletes in the province to represent Ontario at the event.
