The Minimum Mandatory Coaching Qualification Policy Update
The Minimum Mandatory Coaching Qualification (MMCQ) policy has been updated simply to clarify the meaning of “assisting”. It is a minor update and doesn’t change the policy per se. Please note that there are liability insurance implications associated with policies that establish standards of practice.

Revised CCO Criminal Record Screening Policy
CCO has updated its Criminal Record Screening Policy. Every Provincial Sport Organization requires their leaders who work with members of vulnerable sectors (youth, elderly and people with a disability) to go through a criminal background screening process. The policy provides procedures to support its implementation at the division (CCO) and club level. Clubs are encouraged to implement the policy immediately and are required to have it fully implemented by September 1, 2011. The policy is linked from the left menu in the Admin Section.

Coaching Update: Make Ethical Decisions
There are two versions of the Make Ethical Decisions Online Evaluation available on the www.coach.ca website. To obtain Community Coaching Certification, you need to do the Community Sport Evaluation. If you are working on your Learning to Train or Training to Train certification, you will need to do the Comp - Int MED. If you’ve done an MED evaluation after April 2009, you will be required to do BOTH. Before April 2009, only the Comp - Int MED was available and CAC is automatically crediting you with the both versions. Check your certification status and check whether you have to do the Community Sport or not. If you have any questions, please contact Katja Mathys at

An Ethical Checklist for Coaches

The CCO Board of Directors would like to remind all Clubs that they should ensure that all coaches involved with High Performance club athletes and youth program participants sign the CCO Coaches Code of Ethics. Clubs should ensure that the signed document be keep on file and signed at a minimum of every second year.
CCO Coaches Code of Ethics
Please note that coaches who have recently completed the Introduction to Community Coaching and Community Coaching sign the CCC Coaches Code of Conduct as a requirement of the course.
The two documents are similar but there are some important differences. The CCO Code of Ethics includes guidelines for traveling with athletes and Complaint Resolution and Procedures to name a few.
